U. L. Coleman Companies Celebrates Earth Day
Every year on April 22nd Earth Day is celebrated and observed around the world with rallies, service projects, outdoor activities, conferences, and more. The ever-growing event was created to celebrate our planet, acknowledge its needs, and exercise the many ways to take care of it. The U. L. Coleman Companies (ULCC) team wasn’t going to miss out on the fun this year, as the local environment and good stewardship of the land have always been a canon of the organization.
Earth Day starts at home. ULCC is centrally located in Downtown Shreveport, Louisiana, and only a stone’s throw away from Bossier City, Louisiana with multifamily properties in both parishes; so of course, the company focused on these two areas on Earth Day.
On the morning of Saturday, April 17th, several ULCC associates took time out of their day to participate in the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Offices’ “Operation Clean Sweep”. This community effort focused on litter clean-up in Bossier City, particularly in south Bossier. With teams strategically placed in different zones of south Bossier, and over 100 volunteers, the effort was able to pick up multiple trailer loads of trash that may have otherwise wound up in waterways.
ULCC’s commitment to stewardship and sustainability is engrained in every project, development, and conscious decision made within the company- including company culture. A huge part of promoting sustainability includes promoting local, sustainably sourced foods. The ULCC team had the privilege of learning about one of Shreveport’s hidden sustainable gems, Cotton Street Farms (CSF) on Earth Day. CSF is located only a couple of blocks from the ULCC Central Office, so the team walked over to the facility and enjoyed an in-depth tour and CSF’s famous salad bouquets for lunch. Supporting local food producers like CSF in Shreveport, Mahaffey Farms in Haughton, LA, or even local bakers such as Lowder Baking Company in Shreveport, is an integral part ULCC’s environmentally-focused corporate social responsibility.
Next time you’re in the North West Louisiana area, check out these awesome local food producers!
